What kind of a shopping list do you give your husband when he travels to a different country on business? For me, it's always a grocery list. Even when I travel to a new place, I make a beeline to the supermarket before hitting the other shops. Call me crazy.....but that's what excites me more than clothes and shoes! Every country has its local stuff and I love spending hours checking it out! And then bringing it back home and using it to make exotic dishes.
Though things have changed in India in the past 4-5 years, and almost every exotic ingredient is available in cities like Delhi and Bombay.....it comes at a price! You don't always have the best quality stuff....but it's there nonetheless. The problem arises when you look at the price! Even if you can afford it.....sometimes it's so frighteningly expensive that you just can't buy it. Especially if you know what the stuff really costs outside India!
So when Rishab had to go to Paris on a business trip, I handed him my grocery list along with a kiss! Given his absolute hatred for shopping (be it grocery or any other kind), it did take some time convincing him to make a trip to the supermarche!
Lucky for me, he did well! I got almost all the things I'd asked for - mustards from Maille, Vanille de Madagascar, fruity teas, garlic flakes, pink pepper, dark chocolate, granola biscuits, and lots of coffee.
Can't wait to use vanilla beans for the first time!
The pink peppers look so pretty....I think I'll have a tough time using them up!
And I got a surprise as well! Coffee powder from Les Comptoirs Richard, along with beautiful black espresso and cappucino cups. Cafe Richard is the brand of coffee that you get in most of the cafes across Paris. We've shared countless cups of 'Richard' coffee during our stay there....and this was a perfect surprise to keep that memory alive!
Next item on shopping list - an espresso and cappucino machine!
Another thing I can't wait to try.....Thé Noir Orange et Cointreau - Orange flavored black tea with Cointreau liqueur.

What a lovely post. Same here...when my hubby goes for a foreign trip...he too gets such lists.Last time he bought cheese from Paris. He calls me grocery junkie.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I can imagine!
ReplyDeleteMuch as I would love to have asked for cheese...my husband won't risk bringing anything that might smell!
Oh....such a sweet gift! Love the black cups.
ReplyDeleteThank You Samantha! It was indeed a sweet gesture :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous: not only that you got the things you love but that your husband got to go to paris!
ReplyDeletecan we please have "the list" for our reference?
