Paper-towel magic!

One of my can't-live-without items in the kitchen is paper-towel! I just love its many uses, but one of the best and less-talked about of them is to keep herbs and veggies fresh. I am a true believer in using fresh herbs over dried ones, but my heart sinks each time i see my herbs gone brown! So after trying many different methods to make them last longer, i finally hit jackpot when i started wrapping them in paper-towel. I like to trim the herbs before storing them, removing any string or elastic, which makes it easier for future use. Following that, i wrap them carefully in paper towel, before finally putting them in ziplock bags. The towel absorbs any moisture, thus keeping the herbs fesh. Most herbs will last about a week using this method. Basil, being the most delicate, lasts a little lesser than the others. I use the same process to store my vegetables as well, and trust me, it works wonders! Even for salad greens and strawberries, the best way thing is to line a box with some paper-towel before storing it. It does take some time and effort, but it's so worth it! You might want to label the bags after you're done...or else you'll end up wasting precious minutes searching for what you want :)
