Baked Brie

If I was to make a list of my favourite foods, baked Brie would surely be on top of that list. I love Brie in its natural form as well, but baking enhances the flavours of the cheese and gives it that oh-so-delicious quality. It is the perfect party snack, or when you have a few people over. A whole wheel of Brie is somewhat difficult, though not impossible, to polish off between 2-3 people. Baked Brie, alas, can not be stored for the next day!

And it's one of the easiest things to make! Adds that exotic spin to your table and you hardly need to spend any time on it. Put together some fresh warm bread or some crackers, and you're all set to impress.

Just open up a wheel of Brie 15 mins before you're ready to serve it. Place it on a greased baking tray (or tray lined with silver foil and sprayed with a bit of oil). Pour 1 tbsp of olive oil onto it and pop it into the oven (at 200 C), and let it bake for about 10-12 mins. Transfer gently onto the serving dish and top with your choice of seasonings. I used a combination of garlic flakes, pink pepper,  parsley, and black truffle oil. Of course the truffle oil took it to another level altogether! But feel free to use your imagination when it comes to the toppings. Nuts, honey, dried fruits, fresh fruits, chillies, spices, herbs, jams......a wide variety of things pair well with baked brie, as the cheese has a mild flavour.  Here are some of my favorite combinations:
  • Honey, walnuts, dried figs
  • Olive oil, garlic, jalapenos
  • Caramelized onions and mushrooms
  • Honey, apricots, almonds
  • Cranberry sauce, pecans
  • Olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic
Do you have any more ways to garnish baked Brie? Would be glad to hear your suggestions!

  1. My favorite starter at a restaurant near my place in NJ. And truffle oil - wow! Gotta be heaven right there!
