For someone like me, seeing an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables is nothing short of joy. And i'm loving the summers for this! My face lights up every time i spot one of my favorite fruits or vegetables making an appearance on the market. And whenever i see something new to me, i'm instantly curious to try it out! Since i've lived in India almost all of my life, that happens pretty frequently here.
My most recent discovery was the Sharon fruit...also known as Kaki or Persimmon, a fruit that originated in China. Looking deceptively like an orange tomato, it is a seed-less fruit with a soft, fibrous flesh, and a firm but thin skin. My first reaction on taking my first bite was "mmmmmmmm"! Succulent, soft and sweet...its taste has hints of many different fruits ranging from apricot to peach to pear to plum. I felt a high level of astringency as well, but that was probably because i was too impatient and cut it before it was ripe enough. Should have waited a bit more! Luckily for you...you are fore-warned!
I love the way you describe food :-)
